Handlet™ – The Heart of Ecosystem
wphandletuser2021-05-22T09:09:35+03:00The heart of the the Handlet™ Ecosystem is of course Raspberry Pi and to be more exact the model 4B. Raspberry Pi 4B is a credit card-sized computer that comes with 2GB, 4GB, or 8GB of RAM. For most educational purposes and hobbyist projects, and for use as a desktop computer, 2GB is enough.
With Handlet™ Assembled the 2GB version and with Handlet™ Assembled Performance the 4GB version is being used by default. There’s nothing preventing from using the 8GB version with the Handlet™ Case Cover. Handlet™ can be used at daily office usage, as a travel companion and also in more demanding projects.
Introducing Raspberry Pi 4B
The Raspberry Pi 4 is the latest product in the Raspberry Pi range, boasting an updated 64-bit quad core processor running at 1.5GHz with built-in metal heatsink, 4xUSB 3 ports, dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless LAN, Bluetooth, faster Gigabit Ethernet, and PoE capability via a separate PoE HAT.
Introducing Connectors
In a usual setup the following is needed: Power supply, HDMI cable, keyboard and/or mouse, optionally Ethernet cable and of course SD-card. With Handlet™ only power supply is needed since it’s equipped with touch screen. Please, see the Simplest Scenario how to get started with Handlet™ and Handlet™ – With Battery to make it portable and ideal for remote projects.
Power Supply and Display Connectors
Power supply is connected using USB C type connector. The official Raspberry Pi 4 Power Supply is recommended to get the Handlet™ powered.
Next to the power supply is the two display connectors with Micro-HDMIs. The first one (HDMI0) is recommended for connecting an external display.
Audio Connector
The 3.5mm audio connector can be used to connect headphones or speakers. Handlet™ comes also with an internal speaker as introduced in Handlet™ – With Speaker.
It’s possible to connect headphones and speakers also using the Bluetooth capability of the Raspberry Pi 4B.
Internal Display Connector (DSI)
The Raspberry Pi is connected to a touch display through a DSI connector. In some situations, it allows for the use of both the HDMI and LCD displays at the same time (this requires software support).
Handlet™ is connected to the internal touch display using the DSI connector. This makes it possible to connect also external displays and utilize both at the same time.
GPIO Connector
A powerful feature of the Raspberry Pi 4B is the row of GPIO (general-purpose input/output). Any of the GPIO pins can be designated (in software) as an input or output pin and used for a wide range of purposes.
Please, see the official documentation for more information. There are tons of peripherals that can be connected to Raspberry Pi 4B using GPIO.
Ethernet Connector
Gigabit Ethernet to boost the networking. Also Power over Ethernet (PoE) is supported (requires separate PoE HAT).
Also 5GHz wireless LAN is supported but in some scenarios the Ethernet without any wireless communications might be preferred.
SD-Card Connector
SD-cards with NOOBS pre-installed should be available from any of our global distributors and resellers.
Raspberry Pi OS (previously called Raspbian) is the recommended operating system for normal use on a Raspberry Pi 4B.
With Handlet™ the recommended and official image is introduced in the Handlet™ – SD-Card Setup.
What is Supported in Handlet™
All the connectors are supported in Handlet™, the connectors are visible in the Handlet™ Case Cover, including the SD-card. There are many tutorials available how to get started with Handlet™. Start building yours today or order ready-made from our Shop!
